Day Outdoor Education Program
What it actually looks like
What the children do
A full day at Camp Thunderbird run by camp instructors. Teachers arrange students into activity groups of 10 to 14, and each group rotates through three or four sessions chosen with the camp, from canoeing, kayaking, stand up paddleboarding, rock climbing, archery, orienteering, hiking, teambuilding, low ropes, campcraft, owl pellet dissection and nature walks. Arrival is 9:00am and departure is 4:00pm. You either bring your own lunch or pay more to eat in the dining hall. New for 2026 there is an extended day option running 9am to 7:30pm that adds dinner and an evening campfire. Swimming is not offered to day groups because of the time the swim challenge takes. French programming is available for groups of up to 55 participants.
Children spend the whole day outdoors in a small group with a camp instructor, moving between three or four activities. They paddle a canoe or kayak on Glinz Lake, shoot on an outdoor archery range, work through teambuilding challenges and walk forest trails. They eat lunch in the dining hall or at a picnic area outside, then finish the afternoon with a big group game such as Capture the Flag.
Good to know
Washrooms, a dining hall and indoor halls are on site, and lunch is either yours to bring or theirs to provide for more. Rain arrangements are not published and the price is years out of date, so both are worth a call.
