What it actually looks like

Photos from Vancouver Island Military Museum's website
Our note
This is an offer rather than a scheduled program, so treat it as the opening of a conversation with the education coordinator. Nothing about cost, length or how far ahead to ask is published, and it is a small volunteer run museum, so allow time.

What the children do

Sets of objects such as replica artifacts, medals, uniforms and memorabilia, together with high quality photographs, used as hands on aids during a program. The museum's handout for educators says these can be booked for classroom use or included in a museum tour, and that they come with handouts, activity sheets and lesson plans for the teacher. The same handout invites teachers to propose a program the museum does not already run, including a visit to your classroom. No price, length, group size or notice period is published.

Handle replica artifacts, medals and uniforms and look at archive photographs, working through activity sheets with the objects in front of them.

Good to know

This one comes to your room, so the museum's parking and access do not matter. Cost, length and notice are all unpublished, which makes the first email the important one.

Sources disagree. Their own pages give two different postal codes for the same street address. The street number is the same either way, 100 Cameron Road in downtown Nanaimo, so a satnav will still find it. We use the code that their map and their handout for teachers both give.
