What it actually looks like
Photos from Shawnigan Lake Museum's website
Our note
The site names the programs but publishes nothing about price, length, group size or which grades each one suits, so plan on one email to settle all of it. The teacher comments they quote come from a Grade 1 class and a Grade 6/7 class, which is a fair sign of the range they handle. Parking is street and lot parking in the village, and nothing on the site says where a bus would go.
What the children do
The museum's school programs page lists options by level. For primary classes it lists Day in the Life of a Pioneer Family, First Peoples and Storywalks. For intermediate classes it lists Kinsol Trestle, First Peoples, Transportation and Industry and Storywalks. The page says the programming follows the Big Ideas and Content Expectations from the revised BC Curriculum and invites teachers to ask about other options. It gives no prices, no group sizes, no lengths and no grade ranges, and booking is by emailing the museum. For parking, the museum asks visitors to use the lot just below the museum, Shawnigan-Mill Bay Rd, Shawnigan Lake Road, or the Community Centre parking lot.
Good to know
Washrooms, indoor lunch space, step free access and a wet weather plan are not mentioned anywhere on the site, so ask about all of them when you book. The museum is a small former firehall in the village and there is nothing published about bus parking.
Sources disagree. Their own pages give two different opening times. Most of the site says they open at 10:00 and their press kit page says 9:30. Both agree on Tuesday to Saturday, closing at 3:30. Worth settling when you book.
