Amazing Adaptations Learning Lab
What it actually looks like
What the children do
A 60 minute guided Learning Lab in the Natural History gallery for grades K to 3, about the body parts and behaviours that help BC plants and animals survive. The class is introduced to the museum, visits the Woolly Mammoth and Climate on the Move galleries, then splits in two so that one half does a teacher led activity in the forest gallery while the other handles specimens with a museum educator, before swapping. Learning Labs run September to May on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The museum recommends booking at least two weeks, or 10 business days, ahead.
Walk into the forest gallery and the mammoth gallery to look closely at animals and plants. Then in a group of about fifteen they sit with a museum educator and handle real specimens, while the other half does an activity with their teacher, and the two groups swap over.
Good to know
Washrooms on every floor, indoor lunch space in Carl Hall or the community room, picnic tables outside, and step free access throughout. There is no museum car park, only a drop off zone on Belleville Street, so plan the coach.
