What it actually looks like

Photos from Royal BC Museum's website
Our note
This is the route for a daycare, a community group or an out of province school, since the cheap school rates are written for BC grade schools. No prices are published for it, so send the rate inquiry form early and ask what a group of your size and age range would pay.

What the children do

Groups of more than 15 people book through an online group booking request form, and a Group Services Coordinator follows up. The museum says discounted rates are available for groups of 15 or more booked in advance, that schools outside BC are eligible for youth rates, and that therapeutic visits are free. No group rate is published, so the site also offers a separate rate inquiry form. Sensory friendly visits cannot be booked through group bookings; those are run by IMAX Victoria.

Good to know

Washrooms on every floor, indoor lunch space and picnic tables outside, and step free access throughout. Prices for groups are not published and there is no museum car park, so ask about both when the coordinator calls back.

Sources disagree. Their online session page says up to 30 people, then says to email for a webinar version if your group is over 50. If your class sits between the two numbers it is not clear which applies, so ask when you book.
Sources disagree. Two of their pages describe the hardship discount differently. One just says a discounted rate, the other says 25 per cent. Ask for the exact figure when you request it, and note there are only a few each month.
Washrooms
Wheelchair-accessible washrooms are located on every floor.
Lunch space
Groups are welcome to bring their own snacks and lunches. Food and drink are only permitted in designated areas, including Carl Hall or the adjacent community room on the museum's main floor. You are also welcome to eat outside at our picnic tables. Water stations are available on the main and second floors.
