Our note
This is $75 for the class, not per child, and it is only half an hour, so it works better as a lead in or follow up than as the day's outing. Book the free tech test the first time; a wired connection and a big screen are what makes it work.

What the children do

A live 30 minute online session led by a museum educator, delivered to the classroom over a two way video link so the class and the educator can see and hear each other. Topics listed are Amazing Adaptations for grades K to 3, Dinosaurs! Adaptations and Habitats for grades K to 2, Investigating Insects for grades 3 to 5, Meet the Mammoth for grades 1 and 3 to 4, Gold Rush of BC for grade 4 and Ancient Egypt for grade 7. The class needs a computer with a camera, a wired high speed internet connection and a large screen with sound. Sessions run Tuesday and Thursday at 9:30 am, 10:30 am and 1:00 pm, and a free 5 to 15 minute tech test can be booked on a Wednesday afternoon. Most programs can be adjusted for other age groups on request.

Sit together in their own classroom in front of a screen, answer the educator's questions, look at specimens and objects held up to the camera, and do a short paper and pencil activity at their desks.

Good to know

Nothing to arrange on the day beyond a room, a camera and a wired connection, and children need paper and a pencil for some topics. Cancellation terms for online sessions are not published.

Sources disagree. Their online session page says up to 30 people, then says to email for a webinar version if your group is over 50. If your class sits between the two numbers it is not clear which applies, so ask when you book.
Sources disagree. Two of their pages describe the hardship discount differently. One just says a discounted rate, the other says 25 per cent. Ask for the exact figure when you request it, and note there are only a few each month.
