Free gallery visit
What it actually looks like
What the children do
The gallery is open free to the public all year round, Monday to Saturday from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Sunday from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Nothing on the site describes a group visit, a group rate, a booking route for groups or a tour, so a group arrives the same way any other visitor does. On dates the site says are listed on the home page, Roy is at the gallery telling stories to guests around the centre pit in the main hall, and signs reproductions afterwards.
Walk in past a carved cedar eagle on the front of the building, then look at paintings, original prints, art cards and carvings hung on hand adzed cedar walls among totem poles in the main hall. The room is quiet, with soft lighting and restful music playing. On a day when Roy is storytelling, guests gather around the centre pit in the main hall to listen.
Good to know
Entry is free and indoors, in one hall in the middle of Tofino, and the address and opening hours are published. Washrooms, anywhere to eat, parking for a bus and whether a group needs to call first are not stated anywhere, so it is worth a phone call.
