School group tour
What it actually looks like
What the children do
The museum says it is currently booking school groups and tours, and that it is happy to work with educators to tailor a tour to the class's history curriculum and grade level. Booking is by email to info@porthardymuseum.com, and they ask you to send the students' ages and how many plan to attend because the museum is a small space. Admission to the museum is by donation, and no separate school or group price is published. The museum is closed for January.
Walk through a small museum looking at displays on Indigenous history and culture, fishing, mining, logging, and a small natural history display with shellfish, sea stars, ravens and owls. Step inside a replica pioneer cabin furnished with tools, furnishings and household items from Port Hardy's early days. Staff shape what the tour covers around the class's history topic and grade.
Good to know
Washrooms are gender neutral, parking is free and the museum is wheelchair accessible, and staff ask you to call ahead about any other access needs. Admission is by donation, and no group price, group size limit, lunch space or bus parking is stated anywhere, so it is worth settling those by email before you book.
