What it actually looks like

Our note
An hour is short enough for kindergarten and grade 1, which is rare here. The museum says it fills quickly and the only dates published had already passed, so ring early to get on the December list.

What the children do

A one hour seasonal program on winter holiday traditions in the community, with a puppet show about the wreck of the Northwestern and carolling through an imaginary forest. The museum invites classes to bring handmade ornaments for the Kindertree in its Festival of Trees. The booking form gave dates of 1 to 16 December 2025.

Watch a puppet show, carol through an imaginary forest, make an autograph book to take home and hang a handmade ornament on a tree in a settler cabin.

Good to know

Washrooms and a picnic area on site, and the building is wheelchair accessible with a courtesy wheelchair to borrow. Whether there is somewhere indoors to eat and where a bus can pull in are not stated, so it is worth a call.

Sources disagree. Two of their pages give different grade ranges for the colonization program. One says grades 8 to 12 and the booking form says 6 to 12. If you have a grade 6 or 7 class, ask before you count on it.
Sources disagree. They give two different grade ranges for the archaeology program, one starting at grade 7 and one at grade 6. A grade 6 class may or may not be eligible, so check when you book.
Sources disagree. The Haig-Brown tour is described as two hours in one place and one hour in another. Plan your bus for the longer one and confirm the length when you book.
