What it actually looks like

Our note
Making a stone tool is the draw here, and it needs enough adults to supervise properly. Their own pages disagree on whether grade 6 can come, so settle that first.

What the children do

A two hour program on the earliest history of the Pacific Northwest Coast and the methods archaeologists use, with hands on work using locally found artifacts. Thirty minutes is outdoors.

Handle artifacts found locally, then make their own stone tools using the same techniques First Peoples used on this coast.

Good to know

Washrooms and a picnic area on site, and the building itself is wheelchair accessible. Part of this one is outside and there is nothing published about a wet weather plan, so ask when you book.

Sources disagree. Two of their pages give different grade ranges for the colonization program. One says grades 8 to 12 and the booking form says 6 to 12. If you have a grade 6 or 7 class, ask before you count on it.
Sources disagree. They give two different grade ranges for the archaeology program, one starting at grade 7 and one at grade 6. A grade 6 class may or may not be eligible, so check when you book.
Sources disagree. The Haig-Brown tour is described as two hours in one place and one hour in another. Plan your bus for the longer one and confirm the length when you book.
