What it actually looks like

Our note
The younger version is called drive in, which means you go in by vehicle rather than walking the whole way, and it is half an hour shorter. If you have a mixed age group, ask which version they will run before you book.

What the children do

A fall only field trip about seasonal change and plant life cycles, looking at which plants make seeds and which make spores and how animals and plants depend on each other. It comes in two lengths. Grades K to 2 do a 1.5 hour drive in version for $60 and grades 3 to 7 do a 2 hour walk in version for $65. We have read those fees as a charge for the class rather than per student.

Walk into the forest with a volunteer interpreter and look closely at the plants that are making seeds and spores at that time of year, comparing what the different plants are doing.

Good to know

Washrooms are at the entrance and at the Morrell Lake picnic shelter, and there are picnic benches for lunch. How many adults you need is not published, so settle that on the phone.

Sources disagree. Their school programs page lists Forest Detectives twice and gives two different answers for which grades it is for. One says kindergarten to grade 7, the other says grades 3 to 7. Their fall flyer says kindergarten to grade 7, which is what we have used, so it is worth confirming your grade when you book.
