School Field Trip
What it actually looks like
What the children do
Museum curators take a booked class through both of the Society's museums on the same visit. Half the class tours the Pioneer Museum and sees the Rocky Point stagecoach, artifacts from a pioneer kitchen, home and parlour, early photographs, and farm and logging implements. The other half spends that time at the Schoolhouse Museum across the road, then the two halves swap over with a break for a snack or lunch and washrooms in between. The site gives the length as 30, 45 or 60 minutes for each museum depending on the grade, and the cost as five dollars per student. It runs September to June on Thursdays and Fridays, and you book it through a form on their site.
Walk through a converted barn looking at the stagecoach, the pioneer kitchen and parlour, old photographs and the farm and logging tools while a curator explains what each one was for. In the Schoolhouse half of the visit they sit at old desks, write with a dip pen and ink, spin a button on a string and hunt for artifacts.
Good to know
There are washrooms and the visit is built around a snack or lunch break, though the site does not say where you eat. The Pioneer Museum is only partly accessible, and bus parking, a wet weather plan and how many adults you need are all unstated, so ask when you book.
