What it actually looks like

Our note
Serious subject matter handled through a suitcase activity, so it suits a class that can sit with a hard topic. The museum also lists it for grade 9, so it stretches further than the grade band on the card suggests. The price covers the booking, not each child.

What the children do

A 90 minute school program on immigration to the west coast. Students reflect on what it means to be Canadian, work through a suitcase activity, and consider the legacy of discriminatory immigration policies. The museum lists it for grades 4 to 6 social studies and also for grade 9. It runs at the museum for $150 for the group, in your classroom for $200, or online for $100. Up to 30 students.

Children think and talk about what being Canadian means to them, work through a suitcase activity that asks them to put themselves in the place of a refugee, and discuss how past immigration rules affected people's lives.

Good to know

Ninety minutes for up to 30 children, with a washroom and a baby change table on site and step free access for standard wheelchairs. There is no lunch room and nothing published about bus parking, so plan where to eat and where the bus waits.

Washrooms
We have a gender inclusive, single stall washroom available that has a baby change table. While this should be large enough for a standard wheelchair to fit in, a motorized wheelchair will not.
Lunch space
While we don't offer food or beverages for sale, you're more than welcome to bring along non-messy snacks.
