Our note
This one is for grown ups only, 19 and over, so treat it as staff development rather than a field trip. It is on Cortes Island by two ferries and registration for 2026 has already closed, so the useful move is to ask to go on the mailing list for the next one.

What the children do

A multiday naturalist workshop for adults only, described as being for students, teachers, artists and naturalists. The 2026 workshop ran from Friday 21 August to Monday 24 August at Linnaea Farm on Cortes Island, and registration for it has closed. Sessions include a lichen and fungi walk, mobile nature photography, place based writing and a wetland restoration circle. The base fee covers instruction and meals; accommodation is added on top at $60 per person per night in the farmhouse or $25 per person per night to camp. Bursaries cover up to half the workshop fee for people who need financial help. Participants arrange their own travel, which means two ferries by way of Quadra Island. No dogs or other pets are permitted. Walks are on moderately difficult uneven forest ground with hills, and participants should expect to walk up to 5km and be away from washrooms for up to four hours at a time.

Good to know

Meals are included and beds or a tent pitch cost extra, and there are plumbed washrooms and showers at the farmhouse. The base fee itself is not published on the page, and you get to Cortes Island under your own steam on two ferries.

Sources disagree. Two of their pages give different general email addresses. If one bounces, try the other. We use the one from their contact page.
