A private boat is the way to keep a group together and set your own timing, but the two prices on the site do not line up and the bigger boats are based in Tofino. Send the inquiry form with your group size and ask what a boat leaving from Ucluelet would actually cost.

What the children do

A private boat for one group, bookable with Ucluelet as the departure point through an inquiry form on the site. The Ucluelet whale and bear pages list a private tour for up to 12 people at CA$2,703, which matches the 12 passenger capacity of the Ucluelet cabin cruiser and Zodiacs. The private tours page separately says rates start at $850 an hour plus taxes and fees with a two hour minimum depending on the vessel, and the inquiry form offers passenger bands of 1 to 12, 13 to 30 and 31 to 45. The larger vessels named on the fleet page are based in Tofino, not Ucluelet.

Good to know

A private Ucluelet boat is listed at $2,703 for up to 12 people, and elsewhere at $850 an hour with a two hour minimum. There is a form for inquiries rather than an online checkout, and nothing about school or daycare groups is published.

Sources disagree. Their own pages give different answers for when bear watching runs from Ucluelet. One says mid April to the end of September, another says April 15 to October 15. If you are looking at late September or October, check the dates when you book.
Sources disagree. Two of their pages disagree about when whale watching starts in Ucluelet. The Ucluelet page says early February, the home page says March. Worth settling when you book if you want an early spring date.
Sources disagree. The site says the Ucluelet boats take children 3 and older, but the private tour listing says all ages. If anyone under three is coming, ask whether they can be on an Ucluelet boat at all before you plan around it.
Sources disagree. The six hour kayak tour from Ucluelet is listed as ages 12 and up in the tour details and ages 4 and up in the price list on the same page. It is a long trip in open ocean swell. Settle the age on the phone before you book.

Our larger vessels all have washrooms onboard for use. On our smaller vessels including our Zodiacs, we have small marine toilets that are for emergency use only.

For all tours except bear watching tours, you are allowed to bring your food and drinks with you.

Our Ucluelet location offers Whale and Bear watching trips for those 3 years and older.. Anyone under the height of 4’8″ (142cm) is also unable to join our Zodiac tours.. We do ask that any guest under the age of 19 travels with a supervising adult.. For our bear watching tours, we ask that you do not bring any food or drinks other than water as bears have a strong sense of smell and we do not want the bears to associate us with food in any way for their health and safety.. No running, jumping, screaming, or climbing railings is permitted.. We do not recommend this tour to anyone with a history of serious medical conditions. These include, but are not limited to, anyone who is pregnant, those with back, neck or knee problems, osteoporosis, incontinence, recent surgery or limited mobility.. Emotional support or therapy dogs are not permitted on board.. All tours are subject to the signing of a waiver releasing Jamie's Whaling Station from liability.
