Freedom Cove - Floating Gardens
What it actually looks like
What the children do
A 2.5 hour trip from Tofino by open zodiac around Meares Island to Freedom Cove, a floating off grid home and garden built from 1992 across twelve connecting platforms, with greenhouses, an art gallery, a dance floor and a lighthouse. The resident artists host the tour. The site lists the tour as all ages but states that ages 12 and under must be at least 4'8" (142cm) tall, with adults $147.34, youth 13 to 18 $136.74 and children 4 to 12 $126.14. The site says to call Jamie's Whaling Station to book this tour.
Ride an open zodiac through calm inlet water, then step onto floating platforms and walk through greenhouses, a garden and an art gallery while the people who built and live there explain how it works.
Good to know
An open boat with no washroom for the crossing and no shelter from rain, and a height rule that rules out most young children. Call the Tofino office to book and to ask what is on site once you arrive.
