4 Day Orca Camp Tour
What it actually looks like
What the children do
A 4 day and 3 night all inclusive land based whale watching and sea kayaking trip in Johnstone Strait. Day one meets at the Black Creek office at 8 am, then a two hour truck drive and a boat ride into a wilderness camp with no road access. Days two to four cover kayaking of roughly two to four hours when the weather allows, whale watching from shore, shore fishing, a hike of about 60 minutes to a hidden waterfall, disc golf, board games and an outdoor sauna, plus a full day boat tour into Blackfish Sound with a stop at Telegraph Cove. The return to Campbell River is about 5:00 pm on day four. The price is C$3495 plus 5% tax per person, and the site describes group sizes variously as 6 to 10, 8 to 10, and a hard maximum of 10 people per tour. Only 2027 dates are on sale.
Ride two hours in a truck and then a boat into a camp reached no other way, sleep three nights in a walk in tent, sit in a stable double kayak for a couple of hours a day when the water allows, walk about an hour to a hidden waterfall, fish from the beach, and watch for orcas from the shore and from a full day boat trip.
Good to know
Everything is included once you arrive, with meals, walk in tents, gear, a hot shower, a sauna and a heated covered dining area at camp. The camp has no road or public access, the trip caps at ten people, and the youngest age is given two different ways on their own pages, so settle that on the phone first.
