WWI Medical (grades 9-12)
What it actually looks like
What the children do
An immersive school program set in May 1918 at a casualty clearing station in Belgium. Some students take the role of wounded soldiers and others become nurses, guided by two costumed interpreters through the steps of front-line medical treatment and the decisions medical staff had to make. Listed as new on the program descriptions page. School programs run 1.5 hours with no breaks per the teacher information page. The fee is not published - call or email to book.
Students play either a volunteer nurse or a wounded soldier, walk step by step through how casualties were treated at a First World War clearing station, and work in teams to decide the best course of treatment for their patients.
Good to know
Washrooms and outdoor picnic areas on site, no indoor eating space and no food for sale. The program fee, group size and how far ahead to book are not published, so one phone call settles all three.
