School tour
What it actually looks like
What the children do
School programmes include a guided tour of the historic Plaskett Telescope, a presentation chosen from a list of grade-banded topics, a planetarium show, exploration of the gallery and other activities. Tours are 1 1/2 to 2 hours long and up to 2 classes can share a tour; transportation is arranged by schools. Slots are a 9:30am morning or a 12/12:30 afternoon start, "which can be adjusted as necessary". Topics are listed by grade band from K-1 (What's up in the sky?) to 10-12 (The Big Bang Theory).
Go inside the dome of the 1918 Plaskett Telescope with a guide, sit for a planetarium show and a presentation on the topic the teacher picked, then move around the exhibit gallery. One grade 3-4 topic, Planets in Motion, says it will "get you up and moving too".
Good to know
Parking at the top is free and two spaces are kept for tour buses. Washrooms, indoor lunch space and rain backup are not stated anywhere on the site, which is worth a call for a visit of up to two hours.
