What it actually looks like

Our note
The subject matter is heavy and the museum says so plainly, so it lands better with a class that has already met it. It hangs on a temporary exhibition that is listed as closing in early February 2027.

What the children do

An hour long guided tour of the featured exhibition Stolen Bases, about local Japanese Canadian families in Cumberland. The museum says the tour includes discussion of the forced uprooting, incarceration, internment and dispossession of Japanese Canadians. The exhibition itself is listed as running from 23 March 2026 to 1 February 2027.

Follow a guide through the exhibition for an hour, looking at objects and photographs and talking about what happened to Japanese Canadian families here.

Good to know

Indoors for the full hour. Washrooms, somewhere to eat and step free access are not described on the site, so ask when you book.

Sources disagree. Their pages give two different top grades for the Junior Historians session. The program page says up to grade 5, the booking form's own list says up to grade 3. If you are bringing a grade 4 or 5 class, say so when you book.
