Our note
This is a two week, $2,000 commitment aimed at people who want to build a boat, not a school outing. No minimum age is published, so ask directly if you are thinking of an older teenager. The dates are given without a year and the payment deadline has already gone by, so confirm both before sending money.
What the children do
Two consecutive five day working weeks, 9am to 5pm daily, building a Tyee lapstrake rowboat with instructor Mark Reuten in the Centre's boatbuilding shop. The course runs from setting up a mould through planking, steam bending and finishing, and the finished boat is raffled to support the Centre. No tools and no experience are needed. The fee is $2,000 with a $1,000 deposit at registration, refundable other than a $100 processing fee for late cancellations after 1 September, and the balance due by the same date. The dates given are 11 to 15 January and 18 to 22 January, with no year stated, and no minimum age is published.
Good to know
Ten full days in a working boat shop, 9am to 5pm, at $2,000 with half of it due at registration. There is no age guidance and no year on the dates, so both need confirming.
Sources disagree. Their own pages give three different answers for which days they are open, and two of them sit on the same page. One says every day, one says Wednesday to Sunday with Monday and Tuesday closed, and one says every day in summer. Closing time is 4pm in all of them. Phone before you go.
