Self-guided totem pole walk
What it actually looks like
What the children do
A walking route through downtown Duncan past more than 40 totem poles, marked by yellow footprints painted on the pavement. Every pole has an interpretive sign giving the carver's name and the story the pole tells, gathered in oral history interviews with the carvers and their families. Beside the poles are QR-coded decals that open videos, written material and audio recordings, and the same Digital Totem Tour can be opened online before you go. The City publishes no printed route map, no brochure and no set start or finish point.
Walk the downtown sidewalks following yellow footprints painted on the pavement, stopping at each pole to look up at it. At every stop there is a sign with the carver's story, and a QR decal an adult can scan so the group can watch a short video or listen to a recording about that pole.
Good to know
This is an outdoor walk on public streets and sidewalks, with no washrooms, no indoor lunch space and no wet weather fallback named anywhere. Bus parking and how long the route takes are not stated either, so a call to the City is worth it before a big group comes.
