What it actually looks like

Photos from Christ Church Cathedral's website
Our note
It is a working church rather than a museum, so the visit is looking and keeping quiet. Short and calm suits it, and a noisy group will land badly. Nothing on the site tells you whether a group of children needs to give notice, so ring the office at 250.383.2714 first rather than arriving with twenty of them.

What the children do

The cathedral is open to visitors outside service times and its doors are open daily for worship, prayer, meditation, or just to visit. Published visiting hours differ between pages (see conflicts). No admission charge, donation expectation, group rate or group booking process for a self-guided visit is stated anywhere on the site.

Walk into a very large stone church. The nave is 93 by 140 feet, with towers 122 feet above the street. They look at the windows, the organ, the baptistry and the bells from the floor, quietly, since the nave and chapels are kept for personal prayer and meditation.

Good to know

Free entry is not stated either way, and washrooms, an indoor lunch space and step-free access are not mentioned anywhere on the site. The two published versions of the visiting hours disagree, so confirm the day you plan to come.

Sources disagree. Their pages give different opening hours. Some list one time year round, others list shorter winter hours. Check the day you are going before you set off.

Any other uses must be approved by the Parish Administrator and must be in keeping with the sacred nature of the space.. The exception to this is visitors who wish to view the cathedral and to take a small number of personal photos, including selfies..
