What it actually looks like

Photos from Beacon Hill Park's website
Our note
The park is large enough that a group can spend a whole morning in one corner and never see the rest, so pick a gate and a meeting point before you set off. The three washroom blocks are far apart, at Bridge Way, at Cook and Dallas, and at Nursery Road. All three are open dawn to dusk only. The City publishes nothing at all about group visits, so nobody at the other end knows a class is coming.

What the children do

Open public parkland with footpaths through both manicured and natural areas. The City page lists Accessible Features, Ball Diamond, Beach Access, Natural Area, Pickleball Court, Lawn Bowling, Picnic Shelter, Tennis Court, Water View, Horticultural Interest, Play Equipment, Sports Fields, Washrooms, Leash Optional Areas and Trails/Paths as amenities. No admission price, opening hours or group booking route is published for ordinary park use.

Walk the footpaths between manicured flower beds and natural Garry oak areas, look out across the Strait of Juan de Fuca from the open ground, and use the play equipment and open lawns.

Good to know

Washrooms at three separate locations in the park and a picnic shelter are listed among the amenities. Nothing is published about park hours, bus parking, rain shelter or a booking route for groups.
