What it actually looks like

Our note
This is the cheapest way in, because students are free and only the adults pay. You set the pace though and there is no educator with you. Ask the front desk for a sensory kit; the Gallery keeps backpacks with noise-reduction headphones, sunglasses, fidgets and a timer at the desk, free and first-come.

What the children do

School groups visit the exhibitions on their own to meet their own classroom objectives. Available Wednesdays and Fridays, maximum 30 students, and must be booked in advance by emailing jengen@aggv.ca. Admission is free for youth 25 and under; each accompanying adult is charged $15, with admission free for AGGV members, See Art Pass holders, Indigenous peoples and support workers. The grade range is the Grade 2 to 12 range published at the head of the School Programs page.

Walk the exhibition spaces as a class with their own teacher and chaperones, checking in first at the front desk in the lobby and leaving bags in lockable bins. Padded benches without arms are available for seating in the exhibition spaces.

Good to know

Free for students, indoors, step-free by ramp, with washrooms and free lockers on site. There is no published lunch space, rain shelter is not an issue indoors, and bus parking is not stated.

Sources disagree. Their own pages give two different answers for how many adults have to come. One asks for at least 3, another allows up to 6. The 1 adult per 6 children ratio is the same on both, so settle the total when you book.
Sources disagree. Two parts of their Visit page describe the first Saturday of the month differently. One says free, the other says pay what you can. Either way it is cheaper that day.
Washrooms
Four gender-neutral single-stall washrooms, two close to the front lobby and two outside the back exhibition spaces. One washroom has a baby change table, a safety grab bar, and soap and paper towels at a lower height. The front two washrooms are available to use without paid admission.
