Our note
One hour with no making at the end suits a class that is already comfortable looking and talking; the $150 tour-plus-workshop slot is the one to book if you want them doing something with their hands. The fee is per class and is due two weeks ahead.
What the children do
A one-hour guided exhibition tour for school groups in grades 2 to 12, led by the Gallery's education staff, without the workshop component. Offered Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:45am and 1:30pm. Every tour includes a Teacher Study Guide. Booking is through the Gallery's online shop and requires two weeks' notice with advance payment.
Walk through the current exhibitions with a Gallery educator for an hour, stopping in front of works to look and talk about them. Padded benches without arms are available for seating in the exhibition spaces.
Good to know
Indoors throughout, step-free by ramp to all exhibition spaces, with washrooms and free lockers on site. Lunch space and bus parking are not stated anywhere on the site.
Sources disagree. Their own pages give two different answers for how many adults have to come. One asks for at least 3, another allows up to 6. The 1 adult per 6 children ratio is the same on both, so settle the total when you book.
Sources disagree. Two parts of their Visit page describe the first Saturday of the month differently. One says free, the other says pay what you can. Either way it is cheaper that day.
Washrooms
Four gender-neutral single-stall washrooms, two close to the front lobby and two outside the back exhibition spaces. One washroom has a baby change table, a safety grab bar, and soap and paper towels at a lower height. The front two washrooms are available to use without paid admission.
