What it actually looks like

Our note
Booking needs two weeks' notice and only Wednesday, Thursday and Friday are offered, so a date can be tight in a busy term. If your class is not a Port Alberni School District class, expect the $50 fee. Ask which of the two sites this program runs at, because the museum and the Maritime Discovery Centre are not in the same building.
What the children do
A school program for Kindergarten to Grade 3 in which students dig for dinosaur bones and find out what palaeontologists do. Programs run on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays through the school year and must be booked at least two weeks ahead. There is a $50 fee for out of district schools and groups; the Beta Sigma Phi Legacy Fund covers the program fee for Port Alberni School classes. Programs are offered at two sites, the Museum and the Maritime Discovery Centre, and the site does not say which site this one runs at. Booking is through Sylvia Gropp, Education Curator, at 250-720-2501.
Dig for dinosaur bones the way palaeontologists do, and find out what the bones tell you about prehistoric life.
Good to know
The grade range, the booking notice, the days and the out of district fee are all published, and the main floor of the museum is wheelchair accessible. How long the program lasts, how many children can come, how many adults you need, washrooms and somewhere to eat lunch are not stated, so it is worth a call.
