What it actually looks like
Photos from Abkhazi Garden's website
Our note
The whole visit is a walk over rock with steps, slopes and gravel, so it is slow with strollers and tiring for under-fives; at the garden shed, keep straight for the most even path to the house. Nothing about groups, group rates or a booking contact is on the site, so call TLC before you bring a class.
What the children do
The garden is open to the public with admission by a suggested donation of $10 per person, which goes to TLC's operation and maintenance of the garden. It is open 7 days a week from April 1 to September 30 and Wednesday to Sunday from October 1 to March 31, with last entrance at 4pm. The site does not publish any guided tour, group rate, group booking route or minimum age for children's groups.
Walk a looping concrete and gravel path from the rhododendron woodland, across the south lawn and along the heather-lined path beside a large rock outcrop, with detours to three small ponds where mallard ducks live. The route climbs to the summerhouse and the house terrace, and at the garden shed the path divides into a most-even route and a steeper, rockier one.
Good to know
The address, hours and a suggested $10 donation are published, and the garden is outdoors with gravel paths and steps. Washrooms, an indoor lunch space, rain backup, bus parking and any group rate are not stated anywhere, so it is worth a call before you book.
